Thats why! Joomla! (and not WordPress)

Friday, 18 September 2015

Why did you choose for Joomla? Why, for example, are you not using Wordpress? Because we believe Joomla is the better solution for the challenges of our clients of course!

Of course, I must be preaching to the converted. We only talk about Joomla on our website, untill now that is, and we call ourselves the Joomla specialists.

But still, or maybe because of that, we regularly get the question: Why don't you use and support Wordpress, why do you choose Joomla only?

The first answer is obvious. We think Joomla is the better solution. We find that Joomla is agile in such a way that it is relatively easy to use for all kinds of applications. We have many projects to show for this.

Second, it's a choice to know a little about many systems or as much as possible about one system. Our choice is the latter. Otherwise we could not be the Joomla specialists.

Also, we have our hands full on interesting projects where we can use this tool best. And it looks like we will have more than enough of these project for the foreseable future. We have no reason to look into a system that is less flexible. And if the need was there, there are probably a lot better alternatives.

So why WordPress?

WordPress on page 1 of Google:

"Create a free website or easily build a blog on WordPress.com. Hundreds of free, customizable, mobile-ready designs and themes. Free hosting and support." Source: https://wordpress.com/

This should give you an idea what Wordpress is meant for. Wordpress looks like it is ideal for easy standard websites that should be made with a small budget, like blogs or simple websites with just a few pages. Although with the many alternatives like Wix, Weebly, Squarespace and Jimdo you can wonder if Wordpress will keep it's marketshare.

WordPress is relatively easy to use. They even say it's userfriendly. You can find free or cheap templates that can make your site look good. No other needs? This seems sufficient for you. You're done here, start using Wordpress or look at those alternatives I mentioned.

Therefore Joomla

Joomla on page 1 of Google:

"Joomla is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) for publishing web content. It is built on a model–view–controller web application ..." Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joomla

Joomla is a more comprehensive tool. If you figured it out you can do more with it. As soon as you need custom design or functionality, you're better of with Joomla. Of course it still depends on what you need exactly. And maybe more importantly; on your skills and/or the skills of your agency.

Technical agility of Joomla

Joomla offers a clever technical core which enables you to override design and functions as needed, without the need of hacking it. This same technical core can also be used and re-used to build a complete custom web application as building blocks. This saves a lot of time because you don't have to start from scratch.

Joomla is unique

Joomla is a unique project that isn't run by or as one company. In reallity Joomla probably is a new kind of multinational, a collaboration of volunteers and companies from all over the world, that work together in many teams, to make sure Joomla is and remains the best solution for building custom websites.

The Joomla project is a wordwide network, an online community, the motive for many conferences all over and a family of web developers, site builders and webdesigners.

Conclusion:

We not only find that Joomla is the better tool for the best result but also as an international project and it's community an inspiration: To work with a perfect team and realise the perfect web projects.
